10-Day Morocco Tour Itinerary
From Coastal Cities to Desert Dreams
Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca – Gateway to Morocco
Your Moroccan adventure begins in Casablanca, the country’s bustling economic hub. Upon arrival at Mohammed V International Airport, you’ll be greeted by your private driver and transferred to your hotel. If time permits, begin exploring with a visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, an architectural wonder perched dramatically over the Atlantic Ocean – one of the few mosques open to non-Muslim visitors. Take a leisurely stroll along the Corniche, the city’s vibrant seaside promenade lined with cafes and ocean views. As the sun sets over the Atlantic, enjoy your first taste of authentic Moroccan cuisine at a local restaurant before retiring to your hotel, ready for the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Casablanca → Chefchaouen via Rabat – From Capital to Blue Paradise
After breakfast, depart for the enchanting “Blue City” of Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains. Your journey includes a stop in Rabat, Morocco’s elegant political capital. Here you’ll visit the iconic Hassan Tower and the exquisite Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a masterpiece of Alaouite architecture. Wander through the charming blue-and-white streets of the Kasbah of the Udayas, a 12th-century fortress with panoramic ocean views. After lunch (optional), continue through rolling hills to Chefchaouen, where the entire medina is washed in mesmerizing shades of blue. Spend your evening exploring its photogenic alleys, browsing local handicrafts, and soaking in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Day 3: Chefchaouen → Fes via Meknes & Volubilis – Roman Ruins & Imperial Grandeur
Today’s journey takes you to the spiritual heart of Morocco – Fes – with fascinating stops along the way. First, step back in time at Volubilis, Morocco’s best-preserved Roman ruins, where ancient mosaics and crumbling columns tell stories of a glorious past. Next, explore the imperial city of Meknes, home to the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the lavish Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the impressive Heri es-Souani granaries. After lunch (optional), arrive in Fes and check into your traditional riad. The evening is yours to relax or begin exploring the medina’s maze-like streets at your leisure.
Day 4: Fes City Tour – Into the Labyrinth of History
Delve deep into the cultural soul of Morocco with a full-day exploration of Fes el-Bali, the world’s largest living medieval medina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, navigate the narrow, winding alleys to discover highlights including the Al Quaraouiyine University (the world’s oldest continuously operating university, founded in 859 AD), the intricately decorated Bou Inania Madrasa, and the iconic Chouara Tanneries, where leather is still dyed using centuries-old techniques. Browse through vibrant souks overflowing with spices, textiles, and ceramics, then enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant. Later, visit the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah) and the magnificent gates of the Royal Palace. The evening is free to relax or continue exploring at your own pace.
Day 5: Fes → Merzouga – Into the Sahara Desert
An early departure marks the beginning of your unforgettable Sahara Desert adventure. Journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through Ifrane (often called “Morocco’s Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture) and the cedar forests of Azrou, where you might spot wild Barbary macaques. Descend into the breathtaking Ziz Valley, a lush oasis of palm groves, before arriving in Merzouga, the gateway to the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, you’ll trade your vehicle for a camel and embark on a magical sunset trek across golden sands. Arrive at your luxury desert camp where a warm Berber welcome, a feast under the stars, and traditional music await. Spend the night in a private tent, surrounded by the infinite silence of the desert.
Day 6: Merzouga → Dades Valley – Gorges & Rock Formations
Wake before dawn to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, a truly unforgettable experience. After breakfast back in Merzouga, continue your journey through Rissani, a historic trading town with a lively traditional market, and into the dramatic Todgha Gorge, where 300-meter-high cliffs tower above a winding river. Your day ends in the spectacular Dades Valley, famous for its surreal rock formations including the distinctive “Monkey Fingers” cliffs. Check into your hotel overlooking the valley and enjoy dinner with panoramic views of this rugged landscape.
Day 7: Dades Valley → Marrakech – Crossing the Atlas Mountains
After breakfast, travel through the fragrant Valley of Roses (renowned for its rosewater production) and ascend the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Stop at scenic viewpoints to photograph the ever-changing landscapes, from barren peaks to terraced fields. Descend into Marrakech, where the electrifying energy of Jemaa el-Fnaa square – with its snake charmers, food stalls, and street performers – awaits. Check into your riad and spend the evening soaking in the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
Day 8: Marrakech City Tour – The Red City’s Treasures
Discover Marrakech’s imperial grandeur with a guided tour of its most iconic sites. Visit the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship, and the Saadian Tombs, hidden for centuries until their rediscovery in 1917. Admire the towering Koutoubia Mosque, then find tranquility in the Majorelle Garden, a lush oasis of cobalt blue and exotic plants. After exploring the colorful souks (where haggling for spices, leather goods, and lanterns is all part of the fun), enjoy free time to relax at a rooftop café or consider an optional fantasia dinner show, complete with horseback performances and traditional music.
Day 9: Marrakech → Casablanca – Return to the Coast
Bid farewell to Marrakech as you travel back to Casablanca. Use this day to revisit favorite spots, shop for last-minute souvenirs, or simply relax by the sea. In the evening, consider a farewell dinner (optional) to reflect on your incredible Moroccan journey.
